Deep Thoughts

by Matt Minucci

deep thoughts

Deep. Real deep.

So, just thought I'd ruminate through my brain today and see what falls out.

I have seen several replays of the hit on St. Tim Tebow and I have to say...boy that was one hell of a hit. Kid got crushed. But y'know what? It was a clean hit. If anything, blame the coaching staff and O-line for leaving Tebow's blindside completely wide open. The defender came in, completely untouched, doing Mach-4. And he did what any good defender would do. He crushed the QB. Clean hit. Stop whining Gator Nation, just because your season flashed right before your eyes, it doesn't mean it was a dirty hit. It wasn't.

Tim Te-boned.

I took my daughter to see "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs" this weekend. I remember it as a kids book where the strange land where it rained food "just happened." But in the movie, a mad scientist creates a machine that turns the rain into food. Kids today. Everything has to be created or grounded in science. Nothing just happens. So...was Mark Sanchez created by his coaches...or did he just happen?

sanchez

Broadway Mark.

Speaking of which, do you think Mark Sanchez has sent Pete Carroll an "I told you so" flaming poop basket yet?  Remember the wonderful things Carroll said when Sanchez said he was leaving for the NFL?  "We didn't see this decision the same.  Mark is going against the grain in this decision, we know that, he knows that. We have compelling information working against the choice going this way."

How do you like him now, Pete?

Eh, it's not like Pete Carroll can really be blamed. It's not like he knows what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

Pete Carroll, patrolling the USC sidelines.

Terrell Owens 185 game streak of catching a ball has come to an end. His press conference was hilarious. He's just going with the plays that are called, by the way. Through three games he's got 5 catches for 98 receiving yards and one TD. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, could it?

TO - team obliterate.

Phil Mickelson won the PGA Tour Championship this past week end and got $1 million dollars. Tiger Woods finished 2nd and got $10 million dollars. I just don't get golf.

golf

I mean I REALLY don't get golf.

Well, while I may disagree with his methods, I can't disagree with the results Joe Girardi gets. 100+ wins, AL East crown and home field through the playoffs. Now let's see how he does in the playoffs.

Joe Flacco is the real deal. How the hell did that happen?

Meanwhile, Michael Vick returned to the NFL this past weekend and boy, did he look....old and slow. Meet the new Mr. Irrelevant.

vick

Time for Vick to fold.

Hey Brett Favre...welcome back! Was that last-second play against the Niners totally sick or what? Amazing. Of course, we all know he's only out for revenge against Mike McCarthy, Ted Thompson and the rest of Packer land, but...so what? That's their problem. Me? I'll just enjoy the show.

Think the Packers are shakin' yet?

The Lions finally won a game this weekend, beating the Washington Redskins. And, thing is, I'm not sure it's really an upset. Man do the Redskins blow!

jim zorn

So, was Jim Zorn a mistake, or did Snyder do it to them on purpose?

The Giants and Jets are both 3-0 and New Yorkers are already going bananas, figuring it's a given that we're going to have a Jets-Giants Superbowl. Settle down fellas. Lot of football left.

How can the Raiders ban Rich Gannon from the teams training facility for criticizing Quarter-pounder-back JaMucus Russell? JaMucus is THE WORST PLAYER in the NFL, bar none. Yet the Raiders continue to not only defend and coddle this billion dollar bust baby, but attack anyone who says anything negative about this silver and black turd. This is what the Raider brass had to say about Gannon:

“Rich Gannon is not welcome here. … He’s attacked us on a consistent basis since becoming a member of the media. … He seems to be a guy who can’t get over the fact that he played the worst Super Bowl game in the history of the game and he wants to blame everybody but himself. I guess it’s our fault he threw five interceptions.”

Okay, that's very...uh...adult of the Raiders, I guess? I assume it's Gannon's fault then, that Russell entered Sunday's game completing 35.2 percent of his passes? Or that he's visibly overweight and generally carries himself like a guy who goes through the motions from Monday through Saturday and wings it on game day.

On Sunday, Russell completed 12 of 21 passes for 61 yards and two interceptions. Let's let Rich Gannon, the press and the fans, call it as they see it, as it really is...this Russell kid is a B.U.S.T...BUST.

jamarcus

Yes it's a lousy photoshop...but it's just so funny. He's a tub o' goo.

I wonder if TJ Houshmandzadeh wishes he were still a Bengal right now?

Baseball is winding down and most of the races have all been decided. But let's hear it for the Tiger-Twins and Braves-Rockies. At least we have a couple of races to watch. Sort of.

A few quick thoughts about Baseball's playoffs. I think the Yankees are very, very good. And the Cardinals scare me. I think the Dodgers will be eliminated in the first round. In three games no less. I think it will come down to Yankees-Red Sox and the Cardinals-Phillies and I think it will be a Yankee-Cardinal World Series. And boy, that will be some Series. I can't wait.
