Look, I don't want to get off on a rant here...oh, wait...yes i do! Joe Girardi has shown in 1 year and 1 week that he may not have the patience and brilliance to be the manager of the New York Yankeees. Frankly, Sunday's game vs. the Royals is a perfect example and really ticked me off. You're winning 4-3 in the 8th inning. You know Rivera will close the door in the 9th vs the sorry Royals lineup...all you have to do is get through the 8th. Damaso Marte, a lefty, comes in and gets the first 2 outs quickly. So why not leave Marte in with 2 out an no one on base? Or, if you're going to make a move, with 2 out and no one on, bring in Rivera - you know he's coming in for the 9th anyway. But what does Clueless Joe do? He brings in Jose Veras who promptly walks the first guy he faces. Does he leave Veras in to face the next hitter - a switch hitter? No! Does he bring in Mo? No! He brings in freakin' Phil Coke, who pitched like he was on coke. 2 doubles and 2 singles later, it's 6-4 Royals. And the Royals DO have a great closer - Joakim Soria. So...game over. A defeat snatched from the jaws of victory because Girardi cannot manage a close game in the late innings. He just can't do it.

Maybe managers should be allowed to take steroids too

Don't know about the brain, but it's worth a try, if they don't work at least he will have an excuse

At least if he snapped due to 'roid rage and wrapped a bat around Phil Coke's head, it would be entertaining...

Well, you've climbed to first place but you're likely not going to stay there.  You do remember last year don't you?  Third place and this year, you look pretty average.  Unless there's a complete collapse, I'd wait until the end of the season.  But if you don't make the playoffs again, well, he's done.

Thanks for firing Torre, by the way.  You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

So how's Manny treating you Dodger girl?  Jeez, even without Manny, the Dodgers are playing in a AA division. I mean, my softball team could compete in the NL West.

The Yanks are much better this year than last - we won 89s with such mainstays as Darryl Rasner and Sidney Ponson in our rotation.  And Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes combined to go 0-8 over 14 starts. In fact, the Yanks were 0-14 in their starts.  Now we have CC and Burnett. Plus Big Tex, A-Rod and a healthy Posada.

Yanks will win that division. Dodgers will win the West by default. But let's see how they fare in the playoffs.  Torre has had his problems in the first round recently. Like since 2004.

Hey MattMinucci,

Torre's first round playoff problems took a breather last year.  We swept the Cubs in the division series and of course, then got swept by the Phillies in the Championship Series.  But hey, we got out of the first round so good for us -- believe me, it had been a while since the Dodgers did that -- and good for Torre.

I don't deny the NL West is weak but at least now we're winning it.  You can't even imagine how horrible it's been to be bad in such a weak division for all these years.  And yes, I am super relieved that the Dodgers have managed to sustain their winning mo without Manny.  So many fans seem not to care that he was suspended for cheating -- but even less would care if the Dodgers were dying during his suspension.  They would just be shouting for him.  At least the Dodgers are proving to themselves they can win without him.

I think they might be better with Juan Pierre in there.
