Baseball rejected the idea of having aluminum bats for fear of having too many HR, instead they embraced the idea of steroids.

Not to mince words, but the reason mlb decided not to allow aluminum bats wasn't to reduce the amount of homers, but for fear that pitchers would be murdered on line drive comebackers.

That being said, the TRUE reason for not allowing alluminum bats is because of the mystical power of ash wood, which helps generate the power of the Horn of Yaweh. If you don't believe me, just go see the movie "Around the Horn", hopefully coming to a theatre near you someday.

What I wonder is if anyone has ever done a study about whether there is a difference in how many players get to the majors between the guys who go to college and play with the aluminum bats and the guys who go straight to the minors.  I know aluminum bats are used in the pony leagues and schools but does that extra time with the bats in those young adult years make a difference?  Do the kids in the minors have a leg up to adjust to the wooden bat?

What I want to know is why the NCAA doesn't protect college pitchers by allowing aluminum bats.

The NCAA is less concerned about the likely injuries to pitchers from less powerful, younger athletes using aluminum than they are concerned about the huge costs in dollars for wooden bats and the need for multiple replacements for broken bats throughout the season. Classic cost benefit analysis; that's all.

I love some lively Bats debate. maybe they should allow aluminum bats in MLB and also allow pitchers to pitch from behind that BP fence they use.

Classic NCAA, all they care about is $$$.

The real reason the MLB doesn't use aluminum bats is because they're hard to cork!

Excellent point, I like it.  But if anyone can do it, it's Sammy Sosa.
